Palmyra Cemetery, BD sinking fund issues fail by close margins; renewals pass

Updated 12:38 a.m. Wednesday

Local voters said no to the Palmyra Cemetery ballot request  in a close vote, and to the Britton Deerfield School district sinking fund millage by a razor-thin deficit , but were in the mood to renew millages already on their tax bills.

The cemetery millage went down by just a half dozen votes 107-101 in Palmyra Township. In Lenawee County, a six-vote margin was also the county precincts  difference in the Britton Deerfield School District where the sinking fund millage request  appeared to be failing for the second time 254-248. However, a precinct in the BD school district lies in Monroe County and that result brought the loss to within a one-vote difference of 262-261.

Meanwhile, Palmyra Township’s fire millage was approved by an almost 2-1 margin, 140-71.  The Lenawee County senior millage passed as did the Riga and Deerfield township millage renewal issues.

Mike Slusarski outpolled veteran Lenawee County Road Commissioner Don Isley and earned the Republican nod in the primary election 2916-2000.
