The Blissfield High School women’s basketball team defeated the Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots 56-46 in round two of district action at Blissfield Wednesday, Feb. 27.
BD had arrived at the second round after winning Monday night, but Blissfield had drawn a first-round bye.
Whiteford’s Lady Bobcats downed the SMCC Kestrals in game two Wednesday, 60-50, to advance to district finals Friday night. Whiteford had won their round-one game Monday.
The Royals will face off against Whiteford in the district finals at Blissfield High School Friday night for the championship.
Due to weather, the Blissfield High School men’s basketball game for Tuesday, Feb. 26, has been cancelled, according to an email from Steve Babbitt, athletic director at BHS.
It was fortunate Blissfield did not have school Friday after it was discovered that vandals had cut at least 22 tires on several school buses early Friday morning. If school had not been canceled, buses would not have been able to transport students. Two males dressed in dark clothing and dark hoodies were seen vandalizing the buses and cutting tires on security camera footage. Cords attached to the diesel engines were also unplugged.
The Blissfield Community Concert Series will present “Dublin Style” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 8 at Blissfield Presbyterian Church. The performance will feature the Tecumseh Fiddlers, who will be performing a program composed of Celtic-inspired music.
The Tecumseh Fiddlers are an extracurricular performance ensemble comprised of 19 high school members of the Tecumseh Schools Orchestra. The fiddlers have performed at several local festivals, including the Tecumseh Ice Sculpture Festival, Clinton Fall Festival and the Adrian Art-A-Licious Festival.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $5 for students K-12. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Royal Expressions in downtown Blissfield, the Blissfield Village office and at the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce office in downtown Tecumseh. Blissfield athletic history was made Saturday as Royal varsity bowler Emily Cueto became the first Blissfield roller to qualify for the state individual competition.
Cueto posted a total pin fall of 1014 over six games to lock up a spot at the state tournament at Sterling Heights Saturday, March 2.
Here she is in one of her earlier outings of the season at Rich Lanes.

The Britton Deerfield Patriots and Whiteford Bobcats both battled their way into the second round of the district tournament. Whiteford avenged a district defeat to Summerfield from last year and the Patriots sealed a victory over Erie Mason and Cambria Handy broke the 1,000-point barrier.
It was sweet revenge for the Whiteford women’s varsity basketball squad Monday night, Feb. 25. The Lady Bobcats were knocked out of the 2012 district tournament by the Summerfield Bulldogs on Whiteford’s home court. A year later, it’s a different story as the Bobcats bullied the Bulldogs for a 59-35 first-round win.
It was a special night for the Britton Deerfield varsity women’s basketball team Monday night. The Lady Patriots locked up a 50-31 first-round victory in the district tournament over the Erie Mason Eagles, as Cambria Handy scored her 1,000th point in just her junior season.
BD plays Blissfield at 5:30 Wednesday, Feb. 27 as Blissfield drew a first-round bye.
