Palmyra Twp. OKs gas-oil lease

By Melissa Burnor

The Palmyra Township Board approved a gas-and-oil lease with Savoy Energy at a special meeting Thursday , Dec. 27.

Steve DuPuie, landman from Savoy Energy, presented the township board with leases that had been reviewed by township attorney Frank Riley prior to the meeting. The township is leasing its oil-and-gas rights to property on Carleton Road. Savoy Energy is currently operating oil wells in the area.

One is on property in the vicinity of the property. DuPuie said that in order to drill horizontally from that site, the company was attempting to secure a wider area of leased property and the township’s parcel falls within that area.

“The lease does say there will be no wells drilled on the property,” Isley said.

Winter storm whitens area

A swift-moving winter storm dumped four to five inches of snow on the area Wednesday, Dec. 26, causing slippery conditions that led to several accidents.

Snowy roads were a contributing factor when this pickup truck rolled over in the afternoon on Weston Road near Crockett Highway around 3:30 p.m.

The snowfall slowed in the evening hours and by morning Thursday, the combination of plowing and salt had main roads wet but navigable. Side roads remained snowy and slick in many spots.

State police and Blissfield and Riga township ambulance officials were on scene for this pickup rollover on Weston Road near Crockett Dec. 26. Copyright 2012, River Raisin Publications, Inc. Photo by Eric May
