Regional champs Lady Bobcats set sights on quarterfinal action

OTTAWA LAKE — What may have started off as a season of questions for the young Whiteford varsity Lady Bobcats, has now become a very memorable season for this year’s squad of varsity softball women and they are only three wins away from claiming a state title.
The Bobcats excelled this weekend on their home diamond as they swept their regional competition in division-four competition and held both Novi Franklin Road Christian and regional final opponent Southfield Christian scoreless.
Whiteford defeated Novi Franklin Road Christian in the regional semifinal game 10-0 in a mercy rule game and despite a low-scoring final, the Bobcat women came up on the upper hand of the contest, in a 2-0 victory, which helped Whiteford claim the regional title on its home field.
Results and coverage of that contest and additional Whiteford softball action in the team’s quest for a state title can be found in next Wednesday’s edition of The Advance, June 22.
Also still in the hunt for a division-four state title is fellow Tri-County Conference opponent Morenci. The Lady Bulldogs faced Decatur yesterday as well and the winner of that contest will play the winner of the Whiteford/Unionville-Sebewaing contest Friday June 17 at Michigan State University for the state semifinals.
