- Whiteford, Madison advance to men’s basketball finals against SMCC and Sand CreekDistrict semifinal men’s basketball games played Wednesday night have determined teams for the district finals games to be played Friday evening. The Royals took an early 3-2 lead and trailed Whiteford by four points until a three-point shot by Cameron Iott with a just over a minute to go in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to seven. On the other side of the District 70 bracket Summerfield gave SMCC a good game trailing only by five going into the fifth quarter. Whiteford and SMCC square off at 7 p.m. Friday for the district final. In district 69 at Hudson, Madison led by two at halftime and Clinton went on to a five-point lead after three quarters however, the Trojans kept their composure that led them to a five-point victory. Sand Creek defeated Manchester in the second game and will play Madison at 7 p.m. Friday. The winners of both District 69 and 70 will advance to the Region 20 tournament at Ecorse. - Madison Lady Trojans win first round in regionals
The Madison women’s basketball team brought home a semifinal win in regional play tonight (Tuesday, March 8) crushing regional host Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, 49-23.
The Lady Trojans will advance to the finals Thursday facing Grosse Pointe Woods at Gabriel Richard.
- SMCC ends BD women’s district crown hopes
The SMCC Kestrels basketball team made their free throws down the stretch to claim a district title 43-31 over the Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots in the championship game Friday evening.

- Bangerter finishes third, Nieman fourth at state wrestling finals
Noah Nieman wrestles at the state wrestling finals and takes fourth place in his weight class. Caleb Bangerter won third in his weight class at the State Wrestling Finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Copyright River Raisin Publications, Inc. The two Blissfield Royals wrestlers who competed in the state finals this weekend at The Palace of Auburn Hills finished third and fourth in their respective weight classes Saturday after going 1-1 on Friday.
In Saturday’s consolation semi final, Caleb Bangerter captured a third place by virtue of finishing 2-0 on the day in division four’s 215 lb. weight class.
Noah Nieman finished fourth in the 135 lb. class of division four to finish in fourth place. He won his semifinal match was denied a consecutive third after losing in the third-place finals.
- Blissfield wrestlers win in day one of state tournament

Noah Nieman and Caleb Bangerter, Blissfield High School wrestlers, both won their matches at The Palace in the opening rounds of competition of the MHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
Bangerter pinned Merrill’s James Castillo in just over two minutes at the 215 lb. weight class.
Nieman defeated Lutheran Westland’s Andy Faith in an 18-2 decision at the 135-lb. weight class.
Each will wrestle Friday in the quarterfinal round beginning at 10:30 a.m.

- Madison Lady Trojans headed to district championship game
When the Redskins of Clinton met the Trojans of Madison in district women’s basketball action Wednesday night in Sand Creek, it was the Lady Trojans who won the war and opportunity to play for the championship Friday evening.
The TCC rivals fought to a 42-36 Madison victory Wednesday evening after Trojans won their first game in districts Monday night.

- BD women end Whiteford’s basketball season; advance to finals
The Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots will march into the championship women’s district basketball game Friday evening to do battle with the St. Mary’s Catholic Central Kestrels.
BD downed the TCC league opponent Whiteford Bobcats 47-33 Wednesday night after winning the district opener Monday night.
SMCC reached the finals by virtue of a defeat of the Blissfield Lady Royals.
- SMCC takes down Blissfield women’s basketball
The Kestrels of St. Mary’s Catholic Central did what so many SMCC teams – basketball, football – have done to Blissfield Royal hopes: dashed their playoff hopes.
For the Lady Royals of Blissfield, who have had a sweetheart season marred only by a pair of losses to LCAA league rival Columbia Central, this loss came Wednesday night in Blissfield’s first appearance in district play after drawing a first-round bye. The Kestrals swooped off with a 53-43 win over Blissfield and will face the Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots Friday evening for the district championship.

It was an intense third-match up as Madison and Sand Creek women’s teams battled for a win in the first round of the district tournament Monday night. In the end, the Trojans defeated their Tri-County Conference rival 43-34.

- BD Patriot women launch districts with a win

PETERSBURG — A game of momentum shift and sways panned out Monday afternoon, as the Class C women’s district basketball tournament was underway at host site Summerfield.
The opening district game between the Britton Deerfield Lady Patriots and the Erie-Mason Eagles resulted in the Patriots, representing the Tri-County Conference, defeating the Lenawee County Athletic Association Eagles by a final score of 49-42.
The Patriots will play Whiteford 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, again in Summerfield for the district semifinal match.
