  • District baseball, softball play at Blissfield delayed until Tuesday
    Both the baseball and softball district championship games from Blissfield’s Division 3 district tournament have been delayed an additional day. As of 6 p.m. Sunday Whiteford will resume the district baseball game Monday. Rain on Saturday caused the initial delays. Both the baseball game between Clinton and Madison, and softball district game between Blissfield and Clinton team will be played at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Blissfield. Whiteford and Summerfield had four-and-a-half innings completed when the rains came and forced a delay in the final game of the district tournament. The Bulldogs were leading 3-0 at the time. The game is scheduled to resume at 4 p.m. Monday.
  • Whiteford women claim 20th league crown

    The Whiteford Lady Bobcats captured their 20th district softball title with an 8-3 victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Summerfield in the finals.

  • Blissfield softball, Whiteford baseball districts delayed to Monday

    Whiteford High School’s baseball team and Blissfield High School’s softball team will have to wait until Monday to find out whether their seasons will continue after weather forced postponements of both of their games.
    Blissfield’s Lady Royals beat Madison 3-1 in their semifinal game, but the final against the Clinton Lady Redskins was called in the second inning as Clinton held a 2-1 lead, with the game rescheduled to Monday afternoon.
    The Whiteford Bobcats were trailing 3-0 to Summerfield in the middle of the fifth inning of the district final when the baseball game postponement to 4 p.m. Monday was announced due to rain.

  • Britton Deerfield baseball and softball seasons end at Districts

    Both the Britton Deerfield baseball and softball teams lost to the Redskins of Clinton Saturday in district semifinal action. The Patriot women lost 4-0 and the Patriot men went down by a score of 11-3.

  • Blissfield falls in district baseball semifinal

    The Blissfield Royals rolled into baseball district play with a league title under their belts. But they fell to the Madison Trojans 5-4 as the Trojans knocked in the winning run breaking the tie in the bottom of the seventh inning of the semifinal game. The game had been under a three-hour rain/weather delay and resumed play under heavy rain.

  • Royal men and women win twin LCAA crowns

    The Blissfield Royals baseball and softball teams journeyed to do battle in Onsted and returned with a pair of LCAA league championships. The Lady Royals were victorious twice with 1-0 and a 4-2 victories to complete their perfect league season with a 14-0 record.

    The baseball Royals made it interesting, losing game one 7-6 forcing the Royals into a winner-take-all second game for the LCAA crown. Coach Larry Tuttle once again led his men into a league title with an 11-1 thumping of the Wildcats, mercying the home team in five innings.

  • Tanis leaves BD to take position at SHU

    Britton Deerfield women’s varsity basketball coach Craig Tanis announced his resignation from the top spot. Tanis spent four years as varsity coach for the Patriots. In an email sent to The Advance today he said he has been offered the position of assistant men’s basketball coach at Siena Heights University. Tanis also cited concerns over the Britton Deerfield Board of Education and Superintedent’s handling of some issues at Britton Deerfield Schools this spring.

  • Thirteen Advance readership area youths headed for state meeting

    Thirteen student athletes from Blissfield, Britton Deerfield and Whiteford have qualified for the state track finals this year.

    In addition to Makayla Kaser, double winner in the shot put and discus from Blissfield, and Elli Betz who won the 100-meter hurdles and was a photo-finish second in the 300-meter hurdles in Division 3. , Josh Hall finished second in men’s shot put for Blissfield.

    Dylan Murrin won the 800-meter event in Division 4 for Britton Deerfield.
    Also, for Britton Deerfield, Jaymz Gibson was second in high jump. Also qualifying were Oda Laegran, Josh Papworth and Nate Papworth, Dakota Heiden, Janessa Handy, Megan Bower, Mariah Gotz and Samantha Noseda for BD.

    Alexei Groff was second in the mile and a state qualifier for Whiteford in Division 4.

  • Kaser sets shotput record for BHS as regional champ; Betz also statebound

    Makayla Kaser, Blissfield High School, set a new school shot put record and the regional shot put championship at the MHSAA regional track meet Friday afternoon at Erie-Mason High School with a throw of 37 feet 9 inches.
    And before the event was over, she was also the winner of the discus and will be headed for the state meet in both discus and shot put.
    Blissfield’s Elli Betz won the 100-meter hurdles and was second in a photo finish in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for the state meet in both categories as well.

  • Royal men’s basketball season over

    Erie-Mason ended the Blissfield Royals men’s basketball run in the second round of districts Tuesday, March 10. The Royals lost 71-44 after claiming a first-round win over BD.
