Keelie Cairo Lenawee County’s female cross country champ
By Melissa Burnor
Blissfield’s Keelie Cairo is the 2013 Lenawee County cross country women’s champion. Despite being one of the youngest runners on the course, the 14-year-old won the county meet in decisive fashion Saturday morning at Gerber Park. The Blissfield Royal women placed second as a team overall followed by Britton Deerfield. The Tecumseh women won the team scoring. The Britton Deerfield men’s team placed seventh
The entire women’s race belonged to Cairo. She jumped into the lead right from the start, leading the entire 3.1-mile circuit around the park. The race seemed to start quite fast and as a result several runners posted some of their best times of the season.
“I was in the mood to win,” Cairo said after the meet.

Village seeks bids to remodel new offices
By Melissa Burnor
Blissfield Village Council would like to see local contractors bid on the proposed remodeling of the new village office at the former Key Bank Building on South Lane Street. The council unanimously approved the architect’s plan and will move forward with the bidding process the will include a mandatory walk-through tentatively scheduled for Halloween. Any minor changes would have to be made to the plan by Wednesday as the architect plans to release bidding packages Friday in both electronic form and in paper form.
They will send the bid specs out to prospective contractors on the office that will also include a new council chamber and the village police department. David Gassen and his firm Partners in Architecture have put together a comprehensive plan that includes renovations to the interior as well as exterior modifications and some other site work. The proposal calls for five individual offices, a reception area, police department and council chambers. The costs associated with the renovation could be much higher than projected, Gassen said. However, many of the costs could be eliminated if council chose as they can be bid out as alternative choices.
