Douglas Kruse

ADRIAN — Douglas Ulo Kruse, 80, of Adrian, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Bixby Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1933 in Blissfield, the son of Henry and Idona (Forsyth) Kruse. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1951. During the Korean Conflict, Doug served in the US Army and was stationed in France. For 18 years Doug worked for Revco in Deerfield. Doug retired in 1993, a 30 year member of the Carpenters’ Union #517 in Ann Arbor. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a life-time member of the Blissfield American Legion. Doug loved the outdoors and his favorite pastimes were fishing at Lake Erie, gardening, deer hunting in Pennsylvania, and morel mushroom hunting. He is survived by Marilyn (Pate), his wife of 58 years, along with their children; Jeffrey (Deb) Kruse of Jackson; Michael (Dawn) Kruse of Tecumseh; chosen daughter, Mary Kruse of Manitou Beach; grandchildren, Nicholas (Tiffiny) Kruse of Redford, and Sarah Kruse of Denver, Colo.; great grandson, Bryce Kruse; and a sister, Frances Tietz of Blissfield. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Basil and Leslie Kruse; and a sister, Margaret Day. Funeral services for Doug were held at on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Wagley Funeral Home military honors were conducted by the VFW Annis Fint Post #1584. Burial followed at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. Contributions in memory of Doug may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Henry Fisher

RIGA – Henry P. Fisher, 98, of Riga, passed away on October 29,2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.

He was born March 4, 1915, in Riga, Michigan, the only son of the late Henry W. and Nellie (Welper) Fisher. On April 24, 1938,he was married to June MacBeth and she preceded him in death in 1964. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn DeWitt.

He is survived by his son, Henry Douglas (Sandra) Fisher of Riga; daughter, Gaynell (Lester) Schonter; grandsons, Scott Fisher of Toledo; Steven Schonter of Colorado and Curtis (Deb) DeWitt of Kansas City, KS; granddaughters, Shawn (Danny) Johnson of Colorado; Christine Fisher of Chicago; Drs. Adriane (Kevin) Latz of Kansas City, KS; and Carrie (Roy) Schonter Cherry of Toledo; and great grandchildren, Erik, Jay, Andrew, Kimberly, Justin, Mia, Truett, Aidan, and Samantha.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio and to thank Keith Strozier, Director of Nursing and the assisted living staff at Glendale Assisted Living where Henry had resided for the past year.

FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Britton Deerfield wins

The Britton Deerfield Patriots took a 6-3 record to 8-1 Hudson Friday night and brought home a 42-28 District 2 win over the Tigers in the Region 4 MHSAA football playoffs.

The Patriots play in the Tri-County Conference. Hudson shared this year’s LCAA league title with Ida and Hillsdale.

BD will face this weekend’s winner of the Melvindale Academy for Business and Technology (5-4)/Detroit Loyola (9-0) matchup. The game will take place either next Friday or Saturday.

FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Whiteford advances

The Whiteford Bobcats will host round two of District 2 action in Region 4, Division 8 MHSAA football playoffs after defeating Sterling Heights Parkway Christian 59-6 in opening-round action at Whiteford.

The Bobcats brought a 7-2 record into the game and Parkway Christian brought a 5-4 record.

They will play the winner of the Lenawee Christian School (7-2) Detroit Allen (6-2) game.
