RIGA—Lynn L. Koester, 73, of Riga, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania surrounded by his loving family.
He was born at home, in Riga Township, on October 15, 1942 to Lawrence H. and Alma (Knoblauch) Koester. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1961 and then served in the Army from 1963 to 1965. On May 20, 1967, he married the love of his life, Karen Knisel at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Riga. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage.
Lynn was lucky to have worked in what he really considered to be his hobbies. He worked as a custom cabinet maker for Wienlanders, was a licensed builder, a building inspector, worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier, for 18 years and was a life time farmer. He was always busy.
In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by his children, Brian (Cheryl) of Hudson, Brent (Laura) of Saginaw, Brad (Candace) of Michigan City, IN and Brenda Koester of Riga; 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Michael, Audrey, Claire, Owen and Evan; his step-mother, Ila Koester of Riga; his siblings, Sharon Ehlert of Adrian, Merle Koester of Yuma, AZ; and several nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother in law, LaVerne Ehlert.
Funeral services for Lynn were 11 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, Blissfield, on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Burial followed at Riga Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, July 12 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. There was also be visitation from 10 am until the time of the service July 13..
