Robert W. Mallory, age 81 of Blissfield, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home.
He was born September 2, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, the only child of Norris and Helen (Boyer) Mallory. Bob graduated from Blissfield High School in 1952, the same year he was the top scorer in high school basketball in Lenawee County. He was a member of the Sugar Boys basketball team.
Bob was a proud Air Force veteran, serving during the Cold War.
On March 4, 1955, he married Violet Phillips at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and they were blessed with over 61 years together.
After completing airline school in Minnesota, Bob worked in customer service at Detroit Metro Airport, retiring from US Air in 1985 with 28 years of service. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. In his younger years, Bob and his family enjoyed traveling. He was an amateur radio operator, with his call symbol, K8WXW. Robert was an avid reader and he also loved watching old westerns.
In addition to his wife, Violet, he is survived by his children: Mary Ann (Kerwin) Leader of Blissfield and Martin (Sharon) Mallory of Wilmore, KY; grandchildren, Audra, Amy, and Austin (Taylor) Leader; and a great granddaughter, Sophia Violet.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. Devin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, Wednesday, June 15, from 4 to 8 p.m.
