Swanton woman killed in Thompson Hwy. crash

A 54-year-old Swanton woman lost her life Sept. 2 as the result of a one-vehicle crash on Thompson Highway south of Yankee Road.

According to a press release from First Lieutenant Tony Cuevas, commander of the Monroe Post of the Michigan State Police, Diane Hobling was southbound on Thompson Highwway when it appeared her vehicle drifted slightly off the roadway to the right and crossed  back over the roadway and then drifted off the road to the left for an unknown reason. When the vehicle left the roadway the second time, the vehicle struck a ditch and came to rest facing a northeasterly direction, the release said.

Hobling, who was not wearing a safety belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of injuries sustained in the crash.
From evidence at the scene, excessive speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash that remains under invesigation by Michigan State Police. Troopers on the scene were assisted by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department, Riga Township Fire Department and Madison Township Fire Department.
