PALMYRA TOWNSHIP — Republic Services, Inc. announced it will close the Adrian Landfill in a move to be more efficient, according to company officials.
However, the decision will have impact on Lenawee County residents and Palmyra Township, too.
“The Adrian Landfill will close to the public effective Sept. 20,” Russ Knocke, director of field communications and public affairs said in an email to the Advance Monday. Lenawee County Commissioner John Tuckerman (R-Blissfield) said the county has yet to receive the official word from the company on the closing.
The company plans on retaining ownership of the landfill, which is located at Ogden Highway and Deerfield Road, after it closes the doors. However, Knocke said the closing of the landfill should not affect the local customers who rely on them for waste pickup.
